Legendary Los Angeles artist Barbara Kruger, has been the international standard bearer for conceptual art, engaging the intersection of language, image, and communications since the 1980s. In the debut of the work UNTITLED (QUESTIONS) 2019, Kruger questions the authenticity of our innately personal positions and identities, by suggesting that they are constructed. The artist demands the conceit that our identities of gender, class, race, age, religion, etc. are defined within the structuring powers of language, image and cultural systems of representation. By merely asking these questions Kruger invites us to explore all the myths that write our narrative.
